Amazing Visual Thinker

This month there is a new HBO movie on Temple Grandin. She is probably the most well known high functioning autistic in the world. Temple is an extraordinary woman who has had an incredibly successful life but in addition to the story line this movie truly gave me a peek at what it is like to have autism and what it must be like to be a visual thinker.

It has been a year since we received Nathan's autism diagnosis. It has been a roller coaster ride to say the least, but he has improved so much in the past year and we are so very proud of him! Lately Nathan's visual thinking has really come to the surface. The fact that he is now doing 100 piece jigsaw puzzles without any help speaks volumes about how differently he sees the world than a typical 3 yr old does.

Snow, snow and belated birthday

I really don't even know how much snow we have gotten over the past two weeks. I would guess that it is over 2 feet. Some has melted, but then it just comes right back again. The snow is too deep for the kids to walk through. We even had to dig a little path in the back yard so the dog can go outside. School was either canceled or delayed for more than a week. I know many have gone without power and I am so thankful that we made it through the past few weeks without any difficulties.

With the kids being sick and all the darn snow, grandma and grandpa had to postpone their birthday visit. So this past weekend we re-celebrated the twins 3rd birthday.

Everyone wanted to play with their new buckets and shovels so we opted for noodle play rather than snow or sand.

Not much to report

I wish that I had more time in the day to do all that needs to get done. Cleaning is way behind, organization has gone out the window and I don't have even one thing ready for our newest addition to be. Beside all that, I figured I should still be keeping up with the blog. After all this is pretty much the kids baby book since I never got around to doing a real baby book for them.

I love the picture above of all 3 kids brushing their teeth. Riley joined in several months ago and she absolutely loves to act like one of the big kids.

We have been doing a lot of PlayDoh time lately. Mr Potato Head parts are Reagan's favorite accessory for playdoh.

Painting is also one of their new favorites. Dad found these awesome giant coloring books at the dollar store - you can't beat that!
