Well Nathan was given the diagnosis of Autism yesterday. The doctor said that Nathan met the criteria for an Autism diagnosis and she thought it made more sense to go with Autism rather than PDD-NOS so there is no confusion on what kind of treatment he needs.
The doctor did increase his therapy to 20 hours per week (it was 6) so that is HUGE! I think 20 hours sounds like a really good amount of time for him to start making some real progress.
As far as how things are moving with getting the therapy started? Your going to wish you didn't ask....
I called the state benefits office today and the have not yet received our application which I find incredibly odd since I filled it out on March 9th. Of course I call up our service coordinator immediately and she tell me that she "THINKS" it was mailed out!!! I'm like WHAT? You don't know for sure? This is my son's future in your hands and you THINK it was mailed out? I told her to go find out when it was mailed and call me right back.
In the meantime I decide to take things into my own hands. I talked to a man at the state office and he walked me through completing the application on line. I still need to mails a few things in like copies of birth certificates and paystubs, but at least I know that our application is now being processed.
A nurse that visited the house said to us that my full time job right now is getting services for Nathan and she wasn't kidding.....I need to double check every step along the way.
